Am in a Monty Python Mood

I remember watching Monty Python and the Flying Circus on PBS growing up. This was my absolute favorite sketch next to Spam and the Ministry of Silly Walks sketches. And I don't know what would have happened to my sense of humor if I had never seen The Holy Grail or Life of Brian. I wouldn't be half as funny without their influence.

Pete Dudley just linked me up to USAToday articles celebrating their 40th anniversary. Thanks Pete!

Congratulations to the Monty Python troupe for celebrating 40 years of the funniest shows and films ever made!

They had a Monty Python channel on XM for a couple weeks back in October. It almost made the drive into work seem worthwhile. Almost.

In my youth, my parents left me in the care of a hippy childminder called Hillary, whe let me stay up and watch the Goodies (which may not have been a hit in the US but is worth digging out) and Monty P. I must have been about 7, and though a lot of it went over my head, I 'got' the abject silliness — particularly the cartoons. The one where the baby in the pram sucks the entire world into its mouth after its dummy is removed — hey, that still makes me laugh.

Everytime I hear a high school kid quote some Monty, it warms my heart the way Andy Rooney must feel when he sees someone using a butter churn or sending a telegraph- you know, like they did in the good old days.

There is nothing funnier than John Cleese teaching in "Meaning of Life".

I and my high school friends were such MP geeks that we actually did the "she's a witch!" sketch in our senior year talent show. We were also going to do the dead parrot sketch, but they told us we had to pick one or the other. I actually posted a photo from our performance on my facebook.

I have all of their movies and all Gilliam's movies. Don't have the show, however. My brother and I used to love watching that show and Saturday Night Live. Oh, the memories...

I think my favorite skit was the "I'm A Lumberjack" one.

I grew up watching them too, but I think my husband is more of a fan than me. Funny stuff!
