Time of Chaos

I'm having a hard time keeping up, sorry everyone! Excuse me while the blog goes cold for a few days. School started this week for me and chaos has ensued! The last few weeks have been hard as I was trying to prepare for two new classes with new syllabi and new textbooks to read. Academic books are a nightmare to read. I get two lines in and my mind is wandering off to when the new season of Top Chef begins. Listen normal people don't talk like this so why should we read like this. And for all those academics that actually do talk like this, please understand that this and the huge metal rod up your collective asses is why you can't get laid.

But I am off tangent again. See what a problem I have. Yes, I was a bad girl and procrastinated a little too much. So this week I am paying for my sins. Please forgive my absence from here and blog world as I subject myself to academic self-flagellation of the most torturous kind as I try to pull a miracle out of my butt and hope to con my students into believing I know what I am talking about. I am sure to be back with much funny business about uptight students and assinine academics but until then, I shall leave you with an old but classic funny.

LMAO!!!! As a former graduate student, I can totally relate to this!

i have been absent too, but agree on why academics can't get laid...

Love the video! I'm sure your students find you a refreshing change from most of their professors.

When I was in graduate school and knee-deep in academic gobbledegook, I always had fun trying to picture the people who wrote the various articles and what they were thinking when they came up with their abstruse what-the-f*** phrasing. It never failed to cheer me up. I figured that being in PhD programs might have kept some of the guys out of Vietnam, and if so, it was the least I could do to try and read their efforts.

Ah...I knew there was a reason I opted out of academia after my PhD. It was the sex.

Good luck with the semester and the new classes! We'll be here when you get back!

Good luck with the new schedule! I know the feeling. I hate when things change. Everything feels ... overwhelming!

Ello, just pretend you're my Courtroom Testimony and Evidence prof - we're THREE weeks into the semester and still have no syllabus! (He says he wants to get a "feel" for the class before he commits) and he never read the assigned (expensive-ass) text before he had us all get it and he had no idea how much it sucked till after, of course, we all bought it, which is when he finally read it.

Does this mean your not entering the contest?

Precie, you have a PhD? Do I call you Dr. Precie from now on?

LOL, josie--You're welcome to. Some of my friends and coworkers do. But it's not at all necessary. :)

I'm guessing ello didn't see Nathan Bransford's blog about a possible contest next week...

I always tell my students they have to read nonfiction, as in academic stuff, very differently from fiction. Read a bit, stop and think, read a bit, etc.

My sympathies on the crush you're under. I know what you're going through.

I had been missing your pithy insights. Hope things get easier.

At least you're not like the prof at my husband's law school who would always pick the student with the best tan to ask questions after a break. The ultimate response which stopped his sick game was when a friend of my husband, who was deeply tanned from Spring break said, "I pass."
Law Proff..."This is not a game show Mr...."
to which he responded. "I still pass."

Good luck.

Ello,
I know what it is to be busy. I am right now. Very. We'll be here when you get back! I just linked you, finally. I was being lazy before! :*)

Ello,

Don't worry about the absence, it's not like any of us could forget about you... do what you gotta do... I should be taking a blog hiatus right now to write... unfortunately I seem to be too addicted...

I know exactly where you're coming from. I work in a primary school and since we've been back after the christmas break I am up to my eyes in it: planning lessons; teaching; blogging; writing (or trying to) my novel; families....aaahhhhh!! The days are not long enough - the hours too short!
:O

ROFL! Hang in there, hon. We'll miss you while you're gone.

I've just come back to look at that YouTube clip again, Ello. Cheered me up considerably.

OMG! That is hysterical!

Hope things even out for you soon.
