Funny Flight of Concords video

So I love this show. If you never have seen it, you should catch it on HBO because it is hysterical. But the reason I'm including this clip right now is because it is spot on classic Korean Karaoke at its best! The cheesy video, the swinging Lawrence Welk music, the messed up lyrics. If you go to Koreatown NYC (32nd street) there's about 20 of these Korean Karoake places where you can rent a room with a big screen tv and sing a huge range of songs from American and Korean to even Japanese and Chinese. The nice thing is that you are in your own room so you can make a fool of yourself in a private room filled with your drunk friends.

Seriously, this kills me because at my wedding my parents, who hosted a 350 person wedding solely to invite every Korean in New York that owed them some money, had hired a painful Korean band. And a bunch of drunk Korean ajushi's (Korean for older man who may or may not be drunk but is always loud) got up and started singing... badly... like this... I have it on video... it sucks...this is way better!

Did I ever mention that Da Man was drunk during the entire wedding ceremony? He swayed like a drunken sailor all during the vows. The wedding officant was so nervous he forgot to say the vows in English so neither of us recall ever saying we do and all the non Koreans assumed that Da Man had been traded for 2 oxen and a flock of sheep. I would have preferred a 2 carat diamond which I am still waiting for...

I LOVE Korean karaoke! I used to have three Patty Kim albums (she did a stirring rendition of the Korean national anthem) and I can sing Pusan Ko e Kaere, which is Japanese, but it's about Korea and has a few Korean words in it. Wish I could play this video, but I'm at work and our computers won't allow it for some reason. Phhht.

(I'll be back to try and hear this tonight!)

Okay -- I'm back and I heard it, and all I can say is that that is FANTASTIC! Everything about song that was wonderful -- the two nerds, the train background, the translation of the lyrics with the reference to kalbi and the stone!

(Why am I the only person here? Doesn't anyone else see how great that song was? And who were those people?)

Hmm. Your post is coincidentally related to my adventures with the one and only Moonrat in NYC. I shall be telling all within the next few days...

Funny! He's so serious, too!
I think it is mandatory to have a few very drunk guests at a wedding. Our priest said grace for us at our reception and it was very apparent that he had enjoyed many cocktails!

Okay, that was pretty awesome...

My husband type person was hammered at our wedding... so were the groomsmen, my brothers, his, and one of his friends... all through the ceremony I was mildly aware that the well dressed idiots in tuxes were swaying into each other and mumbling things like, "is it almost over?"

Then my brother, says, "It aint over til the fat lady sings..."

And the woman in the choir stood to sing about two seconds later and the whole line of groomsmen just about fell on the floor the flippin' miscreants.

It's my firm belief that weddings can be beauteous... if you just could keep the men out of it :-)

AND STEWART - you're in the states? Are you coming to Chicago or is New York the only lucky city to get you?

I almost fell off the couch when I watched this episode. I fell in love with these guys when they came out with their HBO special and Scott and I have been addicted to the series. Your story makes this video even funnier than it already was...and I didn't think that was possible!

We love Flight of the Conchords here. Have never seen that video before. I'll have to show Julyan.

I soooo want to see your wedding videos.

Love those guys. They crack me up. Needless to say there is a fine tradition of inebriation at Irish weddings too. They make for good stories - and there's always a drunk uncle who - and I quote - "makes a show of himself."

Never seen Flight of the Conchords. What's most remarkable to me is that they think an American audience knows what's going on enough to get this.

And the lyrics are awesome. Well, the translated ones. I assume there's a relationship to the hangul, but no idea.
